There's a dead tree out back, at the edge of the cliff, upon which bald eagles sometimes land to rest. I've never been able to get pictures when this happens. Not even from inside the house.
As soon as their eagle eyes spot me, they take off!
Just now, though, I found this one trying to dry out a bit from the downpours we've had today. He(?) let me snap just a few shots, then took off, his wings loudly whooshing and flapping.
I'm sure he wasn't very happy.
If you took that bald eagle picture on Wednesday, Sept 29, the day of this post, then Doug may have seen the same bird. That day he was fishing a bit south of your shoreline and saw a number of eagles. He also brought home striped bass which we've been eating for dinner for the past few nights (and again tonight)---nothing like fresh fish. Hope the heavy rains didn't do any damage to your already fragile homestead.

Yeah, I heard you guys got some crazy rain. We had it up here too, but not as bad as you did.
